Hi Track Family. It has been a while. Hope everyone is doing well, staying healthy, & social distancing. I have received information that I want to pass along.
Michael Godfrey sent an email on March 27th outlining how spring sports will function from March 30th through the end of COVID-19 closures. I am including the entire email from Mr. Godfrey just in case you did not receive it. Coach Svoboda or Coach Brosnan should be in contact with all the student athletes on how assignments will be posted and collected. Please contact them if you have any questions or concerns.
Stay safe PANTHERS!
From Michael Godfrey:
Student Athletes & Families,
The NPHS Athletics Office has been working with the CVUSD to coordinate and roll out a plan for those student athletes who are enrolled in a 5th period athletics class and are earning credit. In order for student athletes to receive a grade for 5th period class during online learning, we must have proof of their attendance. Since students are required to Stay in Place, the only way we can achieve this during this time is for student athletes to let us know that they have completed a sport specific activity as directed by their coach. We will begin athletic 5th period instruction & tracking on Monday, March 30.
Coaches will keep these sport-specific activities safe, independent, reasonable and all designed to be done at home. It is the coaches’ responsibility to have assignments posted for the athletes by 1 pm each Monday and sent to me as well. They will design a total of 2 hours of sport-specific activities per week from Monday through Thursday for their student athletes. This can be designed for 30 minutes over 4 days, an hour over 2 days a week or any combination that does not exceed 2 hours per week or one hour each day. Student athletes will be GRADED on whether or not they were able to meet the 2 hr/week requirement. Athletes may do additional work/training for their sport, but they will not be GRADED above and beyond the 2 hour requirement. Coaches will reach out to student athletes to let them know how they plan to collect the data from student athletes.
It is the student athlete’s responsibility to check in with their coaches and/or fill out the required information to inform them that they have completed the sport-specific activities EVERY week on Friday by 11:59 pm.
Student athletes should input their own responses; They should not have a teammate input their information for them.
At a later date, coaches will issue grades and submit the logs to the NPHS Athletics Department.
Coaches cannot physically meet with their athletes, but have been encouraged to reach out to athletes by whatever means they are comfortable with.
All athletic facilities at NPHS and all CVUSD schools are closed. Please do not try to come on campus to work out.
On behalf of the NPHS Athletics Department, please stay safe and healthy. We hope to see everyone back on campus as soon as we get the All Clear. If you have any questions, please reach out to your coach.
